One of a number of former luxury hotels standing abandoned and derelict in the town of Kupari in Croatia. In the 1960s Kupari was a luxury resort for the military elite of the time, and their families. Heavily shelled during the Croatian War of Independence in the 1990s the former luxury hotels of Kupari now stand derelict and abandoned in ruins, heavily pock-marked with bullet and shell holes. Here the once luxurious Hotel Goricina has been renamed Hotel California by a graffiti sprayer.
Originally from Manchester in England, but now live near the foot of the Pennines, regarded as one of the most scenic areas of outstanding natural beauty in Great Britain. It's a great place to live for a photographer, but as you can see from my galleries I like to venture further afield occasionally. I have been a photographer for over 30 years, and always remember the best piece of photographic advice I was given. Some years ago I worked with a very elderley and wise photographer and he said to me on one occasion "you are looking but not seeing". Thank you Sandi. There is a very eerie feel about Kupari, it's a beautiful bay and there are 4 large derelict and abandoned hotels there overlooking the sea. I googled some old pictures from the 1980s and it looks bustling and luxurious, very sad what remains there today.
