Description
The Clifton Suspension Bridge spans that River Avon gorge in the city of Bristol, England. It was designed and built by the great Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
The bridge was opened in 1864, and is 412 meters long, and 331 feet above the water level of the river below.
In 1885 22 year old Sarah Ann Hanley survived a fall from the bridge, her billowing skirts acting as a parachute, and she subsequently lived into her eighties.
