Artist's Description

Preserved steam locomotive 46233 Duchess Of Sutherland wearing The Royal Scot headboard at Butterley, Derbyshire, England, on the Midland Railway heritage line.
46233 is one of a class of 38, and they were Britain's most powerfully built steam locomotives, designed by Sir William Stanier, and introduced in 1937. They would regularly haul the prestigious "Royal Scot" between London and Scotland on England's west coast route.
46233 is one of three survivors of the class, and is a regular performer on mainline charter rail tours. Sadly the other two survivors of the class are now static museum exhibits.
