Description
Preserved steam locomotive 73129 departs from Butterley on a bright, snowy December day.
Introduced in 1956, 73129 had a short working life, and was withdrawn from service in December 1967, as British Railways wanted to eradicate steam power as quickly as possible in line with their modernisation plan.
73129 was sold for scrap in February 1968 and languished in a scrapyard for four years before being purchased in 1972 and fully restored by the Midland Railway Project Group. 73129 is now a regular performer on their heritage railway, based at Butterley in Derbyshire, England.
