Preserved steam locomotive 70013 Oliver Cromwell awaits departure from Leicester North station on the Great Central Railway heritage line in Leicestershire, England.
70013 was assured of it's place in railway preservation history when it became the last steam locomotive to receive major overhaul at Crewe works, and was one of four surviving steam locomotives rostered to run the last scheduled main line steam hauled passenger train on British Railways, on 11th August 1968.
This train became known as the "15 guinea special", because of the (then) high ticket price, and ran from Liverpool via Manchester to Carlisle and back. 70013 hauled the train from Manchester to Carlisle.
Originally from Manchester in England, but now live near the foot of the Pennines, regarded as one of the most scenic areas of outstanding natural beauty in Great Britain. It's a great place to live for a photographer, but as you can see from my galleries I like to venture further afield occasionally. I have been a photographer for over 30 years, and always remember the best piece of photographic advice I was given. Some years ago I worked with a very elderley and wise photographer and he said to me on one occasion "you are looking but not seeing".
