Preserved steam locomotive 6990 Witherslack Hall entering the station at Quorn and Woodhouse on the Great Central heritage line in Leicestershire, England.
6990 was one of a class of 71 locomotives built at Swindon for the Great Western Railway, all named after famous English halls. Built in 1948, 6990 was withdrawn from service in 1966 and following restoration is now a regular performer on the Great Central railway.
Originally from Manchester in England, but now live near the foot of the Pennines, regarded as one of the most scenic areas of outstanding natural beauty in Great Britain. It's a great place to live for a photographer, but as you can see from my galleries I like to venture further afield occasionally. I have been a photographer for over 30 years, and always remember the best piece of photographic advice I was given. Some years ago I worked with a very elderley and wise photographer and he said to me on one occasion "you are looking but not seeing".
