Description
In a scene re-living the age of steam, preserved locomotive 46233 Duchess Of Sutherland blasts past the shed yard at Barrow Hill in England. This image was taken at a gala commemorating 50 years since the end of steam workings at Barrow Hill Roundhouse in 1965. Other steam locomotives Black Five class no. 45305 and Jubilee class 45690 Leander simmer in the shed yard.
Barrow Hill Roundhouse survives as the last remaining example of a working steam roundhouse in England, and operates not just as a working museum, but also as a centre for modern day heavy railway engineering projects, and a development centre for European railway centres.
