Description
The mainly 12th century church stands by the River Wharfe at Hubberholme, in Yorkshire's Langstrothdale Valley. It was built on the site of a forest chapel. Inside is a beautiful wooden rood loft which escaped Elizabeth 1's orders to destroy all such objects. The pews, choir stalls and chairs were made by Thompson of Kilburn, 'the mouseman'. The trademark carving of a mouse can be found in many places within the church.
The church and village pub (The George Inn) were frequented by novelist J.B Priestley whose ashes are buried in the churchyard.

Incidentally Ira, my photo of the whitewashed pub "The George Inn" is the one referred to in the church description, as frequented by J.B.Priestly. The church and the pub are just across a small bridge from each other, with the River Wharfe meandering underneath. It's a wonderfully relaxing little place to visit.
