Description
Preserved steam locomotive 6023 King Edward II at Didcot, home of the Great Western Society. The "King" class were the most powerful locomotives to run on the western region of Britain's railway system, and 6023 is one of a class of 30 locomotives, 3 of which are now preserved. After being withdrawn from service in 1962 6023 stood in a scrapyard for many years before being rescued and restored. The locomotive is seen here in the blue livery which featured in the early years of service, before being replaced by the standard BR green livery in the early 1950s.
