The Ragged Victorians are an award winning living history re-enactment group, re-creating the hardship, squalor, and poverty endured by the lower social classes of Victorian England. They regularly feature at historical sites in the UK.

David I love the entire series. The muted colors in some of the images, the people and their costumes. It looks as if you actually went back in time and took the photos during the victorian era. f/v
David Birchall replied:
Thank you very much Jim. The "Ragged Victorians" are a superb historical re-enactment group who regularly appear at various historical sites in the UK. I've seen many such groups, but none are as good as these, their attention to detail is second to none. As you said, it was like going back in time to the Victorian era. I did some in black and white but I thought the muted colours worked much better for the series.

I am simply enthralled by the coloring, or lack of it, in your people images. So beautiful, David! l/f
David Birchall replied:
Thank you very much Toni. It is an effect I use very selectively, but I do think it works well with my "Ragged Victorian" series of images.
