Boscastle is an historic village and fishing port on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall, England. On August 16th 2004 Boscastle was extensively damaged by a devastating flash flood. Torrential rain caused two nearby rivers to burst their banks, sending two billion gallons of water cascading down the surrounding valley, and into Boscastle.
Cars were swept out to sea, many building were badly damaged, and people had to react very quickly to survive. Miraculously nobody was killed thanks largely to a huge rescue operation involving several helicopters, but the village had suffered millions of pounds worth of damage.
Today this pretty and charming village shows little sign of the damage suffered in 2004.
Originally from Manchester in England, but now live near the foot of the Pennines, regarded as one of the most scenic areas of outstanding natural beauty in Great Britain. It's a great place to live for a photographer, but as you can see from my galleries I like to venture further afield occasionally. I have been a photographer for over 30 years, and always remember the best piece of photographic advice I was given. Some years ago I worked with a very elderley and wise photographer and he said to me on one occasion "you are looking but not seeing". I remember the floods here it was a very distressing time, love the pink cottages and cobbled street..looking good.
