Preserved steam locomotive class 9F 92214 masquerades as it's famous sister locomotive of the same class, 92220 Evening Star, on the Great Central Railway heritage line in Leicestershire, England. 92220 Evening Star was the very last steam locomotive to be built for British Railways, and was completed at Swindon in 1960.
The locomotive was named Evening Star following a competition among the workers at Swindon, when they were asked to suggest an appropriate name for the last steam locomotive to be built. Following a very short working life of only five years, Evening Star was withdrawn from service in 1965, and now forms part of the national collection in York railway museum.
Originally from Manchester in England, but now live near the foot of the Pennines, regarded as one of the most scenic areas of outstanding natural beauty in Great Britain. It's a great place to live for a photographer, but as you can see from my galleries I like to venture further afield occasionally. I have been a photographer for over 30 years, and always remember the best piece of photographic advice I was given. Some years ago I worked with a very elderley and wise photographer and he said to me on one occasion "you are looking but not seeing".
