Through lush summer greenery, preserved steam locomotive Royal Scot class 46115 Scots Guardsman is seen crossing Whalley Viaduct in Lancashire, England. Known locally as Whalley Arches, the viaduct has 48 spans crossing the River Calder. It is 605 metres long, and was constructed between 1846-1850.
46115 Scots Guardsman was withdrawn from British Railways service in January 1966 and is one of only two of a class of 71 locomotives to survive into preservation, the other being class leader 46100 Royal Scot.
Originally from Manchester in England, but now live near the foot of the Pennines, regarded as one of the most scenic areas of outstanding natural beauty in Great Britain. It's a great place to live for a photographer, but as you can see from my galleries I like to venture further afield occasionally. I have been a photographer for over 30 years, and always remember the best piece of photographic advice I was given. Some years ago I worked with a very elderley and wise photographer and he said to me on one occasion "you are looking but not seeing".
